Starbright Connections LLC – Denver Metro Area
Starbright Connections LLC is looking for dependable, positive, and motivated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to join our team supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Starbright is a community-based day program, which means our days are spent out in the community rather than in a facility. DSPs support participants as they explore their communities, build relationships, develop and maintain skills, make choices, try new experiences, and participate in meaningful activities.
We are looking for employees who understand that our participants are the reason we are here. This is an active, hands-on position that requires reliability, flexibility, good judgment, a positive attitude, and a genuine willingness to provide direct support. We are looking for employees who are also willing to swim and exercise with participants.
We are currently hiring for four scheduling options. Applicants should indicate which schedule(s) they are interested in and able to consistently work. Please note that your start/end time are based on participant pickups.
Schedule 1 – Wednesday through Saturday
Applicants for this schedule must have flexibility to work Friday and Saturday evenings when activities are scheduled.
Schedule 2 – Monday through Thursday
Schedule 3 – Monday and On-Call / Fill-In DSP
Schedule 4 – On-Call / Fill-In DSP
Applicants for regularly scheduled positions should be able to consistently commit to the days and general times listed above.
Starting Pay: $21.00 per hour
Starbright Connections offers:
DSPs provide direct support, supervision, assistance, and care to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities while participating in community-based services.
Responsibilities include:
Our activities are scheduled for our participants and are designed to provide opportunities for community involvement, relationships, skill development, new experiences, and fun.
Because Starbright is entirely community-based, reliable transportation is required for DSP positions involving driving. We are currently only hiring driving positions.
DSPs must:
Starbright provides company vans as needed, including when routes, participant needs, or vehicle capacity require them.
This is an active, hands-on DSP position.
Applicants should be comfortable:
DSPs are not expected to independently lift or carry adult participants.
DSPs work as a team.
Participants may have an assigned DSP for documentation and accountability purposes; however, all DSPs are responsible for the safety and supervision of participants within the group throughout the program day.
Staffing assignments may be redistributed throughout the day to maintain appropriate and reasonably balanced staffing based on participant needs, supervision requirements, activities, and group size.
Leads and management may also assign a DSP to provide additional support to a participant who has increased supervision, personal-care, mobility, behavioral, or other individualized needs.
DSPs are expected to communicate with one another and never assume another employee has taken responsibility for a participant without clear communication.
Excellent and dependable attendance is an essential expectation of this position.
Our staffing is based on participant supervision, health and safety, transportation, and individual support needs. This is not a position where scheduled responsibilities can simply be postponed when an employee is absent.
DSPs are expected to:
DSPs are required to clock in and be available for work-related communication 30 minutes before their first scheduled participant pickup. This is paid work time.
This allows employees to receive information regarding participant attendance, route changes, staffing assignments, activities, health and safety concerns, and other important updates.
The 30-minute period is not an estimate of how long it should take an employee to travel to their first pickup. Employees are responsible for planning their commute so they arrive at the first scheduled participant pickup on time and may need to begin traveling more than 30 minutes beforehand.
Employees may not read or respond to messages while driving.
DSPs are responsible for accurate and timely documentation.
Daily service notes are generally completed following the DSP's final participant drop-off or completion of direct services.
DSPs assigned:
DSPs may eat their own meals while continuing to supervise and support participants.
However, participant needs take priority during mealtimes. Participants who require assistance with accessing, preparing, opening, cutting, positioning, or safely eating their food should not have to wait because an employee chooses to eat first.
DSPs remain responsible for participant supervision and participant-specific eating and safety protocols while eating their own meals.
Applicants should have:
Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is helpful, but we also value applicants who are dependable, willing to learn, comfortable with the responsibilities of direct support, and genuinely interested in working with the people we serve.
We want DSPs who are reliable, patient, flexible, positive, responsible, and comfortable taking initiative.
A strong DSP doesn't need a supervisor directing every part of their day. They can follow the schedule, participant plans, Starbright policies, and applicable requirements; make reasonable day-to-day decisions; adapt when circumstances change; and ask for guidance when it is genuinely needed.
Most importantly, we're looking for people who understand that being a DSP means being there for the participants—supporting their choices, safety, independence, relationships, community involvement, and opportunities to have meaningful experiences.
